Blood Moons and Blood Shed
By Joshua Teitlebaum Munan
Do you ever wonder where the human race is heading? Many are saying that within the next two years a world shaking event is about to happen. Why do they believe this? Because in the next two years four blood moons will appear in the sky. Blood moons get their name because during a lunar eclipse only the infrared band of light gets around the earth and bounces off the moon making it look red.
Since the birth of Yeshua there have been seven back-to-back blood moons that have fallen on a Biblical feast. April 15th will be the eighth time the first of four blood moons will fall on a Biblical feast. When this happened in the past something significant took place with respect to Israel and the Jewish people. Today we are going to explore the possible message of these upcoming four blood moons and see why it’s critical that we understand what these signs mean both for Israel and the world.
Read Genesis 1:14
The sun and moon are for signs and seasons. The word “sign” (oth) refers to a signal, it can signal that an event is about to take place, it can refer to a warning or an omen. The term “seasons” (moedim) refers to an appointment – an appointment with God. The Biblical calendar follows the moon. The moon signals God’s appointed times. God has gives seven appointments with Israel – called feasts. We find these appointed times in Leviticus 23.
Read Lev 23:1, 2, 4
God’s seven appointments with Israel are Passover, the feast of unleavened bread, first fruits, the feast of Pentecost, trumpets (Rosh Hashanah) Yom kippur (Day of Atonement) and the feast of booths (Sukkot). When a warning sign, such as a red moon, falls on an appointed time, such as a Biblical feast, it is a warning from God that something big is about to take place. The Jewish Talmud (book of interpretation) says; “When the moon is in eclipse, it is a bad omen for Israel. If its face is as red as blood, (it is a sign that) the sword is coming.”
Read Joel 2:30, Acts 2:20
Is the sword coming to Israel? I believe Psalm 83 says ‘yes.’ Before we look at Psalm 83 let’s take a brief tour at history’s “Blood moons.” Blood moons have occurred thousands of times over the ages. But there’s something different when four blood moons occur on God’s appointed times, the feasts. Starting on April 15th there will be four blood moons scheduled to appear on the feasts after that there will not be any on the Feasts for the next 100 years.
Data for blood moon tetrads are available from NASA. We can trace these tetrads as far back as the birth of Yeshua. A blood moon tetrad happened on the Jewish feasts in 1493 – 94. At this time, Jews were expelled from Spain by Queen Isabella. They were ordered to embrace Catholicism or leave the kingdom. The only Jews left in Spain after that were those few Jews who became Catholics. Another interesting event happened in 1493. Christopher Columbus a Spanish guy, set out to discover America. Colombo is a Jewish name. His expedition was financed by Spanish Jews. It appears Christopher Columbus was Jewish and was motivated to discover new lands in hope of finding a safe haven for the Jewish people.
The next time four blood moons land on Biblical feasts is 1949 – 1950. Right after the establishment of the State of Israel. The next time we find a blood moon tetrad falling on the Jewish feasts is 1967 – 68, around the time of the Six-Day War.
“When the moon is in eclipse it is a bad omen for Israel. If its face is a red as blood, it is a sign that the sword is coming.”
A blood moon tetrad shows a pattern of Jewish persecution and then more land after a time of war. The pattern is persecution than enlarged borders. That is the message of Psalm 83.
Read Psalm 83
This Psalm was written by Asaph. Who is Asaph? He was David’s music director (probably wrote most of the music to David’s Psalms). He lived through David, Solomon and part of Rehoboam’s reign. What is often over looked is that Asaph was not only David’s worship leader he was also a prophet.
Read 1 Chron 25:1, 2.
I believe Psalm 83 is a prophecy, a prophecy yet to be fulfilled. Never in history has this coalition of nations come together to seek Israel’s destruction. Until 1948. Then again in 1967. Both wars occurred around a tetrad of Blood moons and Jewish feasts. My guess is that in the months and years ahead a coalition of nations will once again come together and seek Israel’s destruction. The end result of this conflict will be a significant change for Israel. This Psalm reads like headline news; it is a prophecy that is being played out before our very eyes.
I. A Cry for Help and a Coalition of Hate (83:1 – 8)
The 10 nations listed here share three things. First they share a common border with Israel. Second, they share a common hatred for Israel. Lastly they share a common disdain for the God of Israel. Israel’s presence in the region reminds them of God’s presence. The Jews are a visible reminder of the invisible God. By wiping Israel off the map they believe they can wipe the memory of God from their region. In their coalition of hate, they partner together and device plans to destroy the people of God. By killing Jews they could liquidate the area of any Judeo-Christian presence and establish an entirely Islamic region.
The supreme leader of Iran recently said, “The issue of Palestine is an Islamic issue. The Islamic world must come together to destroy the Israeli regime. When this happens nothing will be left of Israel. The only solution to the Palestinian problem is the destruction of the Zionist regime.”
As we speak the nations that border Israel are preparing for war. Here are some examples taken from various sources since 2014 began.
- Israel’s Defence intelligence chief recently said, “Iran has formulated a strategy to establish a hostile presence in all countries that neighbour Israel. Israel is now threatened by 170,000 rockets and missiles and in which the Syrian civil war has placed “30,000 global jihad terrorists” at our doorstep. Israel is surrounded by 360 degrees of actual enemies.”
- On February 21st, IDF minister Ehud Barack spoke of preparing for war with Hizbollah (Lebanon) and Hamas (Gaza).
- Syria has amassed one of the largest stockpiles of chemical and biological weapons from Russia and Iran. They are presently transferring these weapons into Lebanon destined for the terrorist group Hizbollah.
- Hizbollah now has tens of thousands of missiles directed at population centers in Israel.
- A few days ago, the Israeli Navy intercepted a shipment of high quality Iranian weapons destined for Gaza. These weapons would have put millions of Israeli’s in the line of fire.
- The Syrian crisis is causing major instability in the region. Rebel groups are receiving massive amounts of money from Western countries, from Russia and Iran allowing these terrorist groups to stockpile military resources.
- On February 26th, 47 Jordanian MP’s signed a motion to scrap its peace treaty with Israel. Jordan is also becoming destabilized with the massive influx of Syrian refugees.”
Things are aligned for a major regional war. Israel is surrounded on every side by nations seeking her destruction. Terrorist groups are growing in military strength and stockpiling high quality weapons and taking advantage of the instability of the Syrian crisis. Iran is bankrolling the terrorist activity. All it would take is to provoke Israel to a military strike on any of these bordering nations and a war is on. It is a fragile situation and calls for God’s help against this coalition of hate.
II. A Divine Intervention with a Dramatic Outcome (83:9 – 18)
1. God intervenes
The two examples of God’s intervention are taken from the Book of Judges. What do we know about Israel’s spiritual state during this time of Israel’s history? Israel was at its lowest point. Even when Israel was in rebellion against God, the Lord still gave them a decisive victory (the absence of the names of the judges – Gideon and Deborah indicates that the deliverance was from the Lord). In the same way, even though Israel today is an unbelieving nation that does not mean the Lord will remain silent in a time of national crisis.
2. Israel’s enemies go from hating God to seeking Him
Illustration: Kamal Saleem was a Sunni Muslim terrorist who was breastfed Islamic radicalism by his mother, and taught to hate Jews and Christians by his father. He was recruited for jihadi militancy as a small child. Kamal ran terror operations in the service of Yassir Arafat, Saddam Hussein and the Muslim Brotherhood. After mastering terror tactics, Saleem slipped into Europe and then the United States to make Islamic converts — and radicalize them. His aim was to glorify Allah through terrorism and cultural jihad. Due to a near-fatal car accident in the US, Kamal Saleem for the first time confronted what might be called the very best of Christianity. Rescued from the wreckage and nursed back to health by devout believers, he himself became a believer. He defected entirely from Islamic militancy –as well as Islam itself. Today, Saleem devotes his life to warning about the Islamic jihadist threat and sharing his testimony of faith in Yeshua. God’s mighty acts of intervention lead to a recognition that the Lord is God.
2. Israel’s persecution by bordering nations, results in Israel’s enlarged borders
Israel will come out of this conflict with more land, more resources, more wealth and a stronger military. Why do I say this? Two reasons, blood moon tetrads show a pattern of Jewish persecution and then more land after a time of war. As anti-Semitism rises around the world, more and more Jewish people will find safety by returning to their ancestral homeland. To accommodate millions of Jewish people, Israel will need more land.
Everything is aligned for a major regional war. Israel is surrounded on every side by nations seeking her destruction. Iran has formulated a strategy to establish a hostile presence in all countries that border Israel. Israel is surrounded by 360 degrees of actual enemies. “When the moon is in eclipse, it is a bad omen for Israel. If its face is as red as blood, (it is a sign that) the sword is coming.” It is not if a regional war will happen it is when will it happen? I believe we are approaching the when.
- Pray that Israeli’s will turn from unbelief to faith in Yeshua during this crisis.
- Pray that the Jewish people scattered throughout the world will turn to Yeshua.
- Pray that Islamic Jihadist will encounter believers and turn from hatred to love.
- Pray that the Arab people will make peace in their own hearts with the reality of a Jewish State.
- Hatred for Israel is a burning fire throughout the world. As believers, let’s work to douse the flames of anti-Semitism rather than intensify them.
- We know that it is God’s plan to bring the Jewish people home. By supporting agencies that facilitate aliyah you are partnering with God in this great cause.
