Two others: Let no one deceive you, Abomination of Desolation vs. 15
1. There will be great signs in the heavens and then the SIGN OF THE SON OF MAN WILL APPEAR IN THE SKY.
2. When you see these things recognize that He is near, right at the door.
3. This generation will not pass away until all these things are fulfilled.
4. Heaven and earth will pass away before my words pass away.
5. Of that day and hour no one knows, only the Father alone.
6. The coming of the son of man will be just like the days of Noah (a generation that did not heed the warning of coming judgment).
7. Be on alert and be ready for the coming of the Son of man.
What is the mystery of the parable of the Fig Tree that has been hidden in ages past but now in our generation it has been revealed to us?
The Fig tree in scripture is one of the trees that is symbolic of Israel. The other is the Olive Tree mentioned in Romans 11 and Zechariah 4.
Understanding the nature of the Fig tree will help us understand why it is symbolic of Israel. The Fig tree was one of the popular foods in the Middle East. In Ancient Israel they depended upon it to help sustain their economy.
The failure of the fig harvest was considered a national calamity. Its productiveness and abundance was considered a token of peace and of God’s divine favor. The Fig tree differs from most other fruit trees, in that its fruit is green and inconspicuous; it is concealed (or hidden) among the leaves until near the time of ripening. You cannot easily detect its fruit on the tree. Can you discern the revelation of this truth as it relates to Israel?
In the book of Revelation 21:2 it says that the leaves of the tree of life was for the healing of the nations. Leaves are symbolic of the nations. For the past 2000 years Israel has been scattered and hidden among the nations. The true purpose of God in terms of His Second Coming has been hidden and concealed within the people of Israel.
As we draw closer to Israel’s fullness as outlined in Romans 11:12 and when its fruit begins to ripen and draw near to the time of harvest the purposes of God will become more clearly seen. It is normal for fig trees in Israel to put forth its leaves in the spring time in late March and early April around the time of Passover, a time of new beginnings. It is not without significance that on May 14th 1948 Israel became a nation after 2000 years of being scattered among the nations. It was during the same time that the Fig trees were budding in Israel.
Isaiah 66:8 “Who has heard such a thing? Who has seen such things? Can a land be born in one day? Can a nation be brought forth all at once? As soon as Zion travailed she also brought forth her sons.”
We know that out of the ashes of the Holocaust, out of the travail and suffering of the Jewish people, God gave birth to her children, when Israel literally became a nation in one day just as the scriptures predicted.
The prophet Ezekiel also spoke of this day in Ezekiel 37:1-14 the vision of the valley of Dry Bones. A people who were gathered back to their land without the Spirit….
Vs. 11-14 (quote the number of Jews who have returned to Israel in the past 50 years) One third of all Jews worldwide have returned to the land of Israel in the past 50 years. There are approx. 4-5 million Jews in Israel today.
In 1948 Israel was literally a barren wasteland. God not only promised that He would bring His people back to the land but that He would supernaturally restore this land of promise. The promise of physical restoration before spiritual Ezekiel 36:6-11,12,33-37 (Jer. 23:3,4- Prophecy of Messianic shepherds).
It is amazing since Israel first budded as a fig tree in 1948 how God’s word has been literally fulfilled so quickly. In just 50 years, God has taken a barren wasteland and made it like the Garden of Eden. Israel is the third largest exporter of flowers in the world today and produces more food and fruit than she is able to use. God has blessed the people of Israel so abundantly since they have once again become a nation.
