The Jewish people have followed a Bible reading program since, according to some, the time of Nehemiah and Ezra. In every Jewish community and in every synagogue a portion from the Torah and one or more portions from the Prophets and Writings are read on Sabbaths and on major Biblical/Jewish holidays. Each Torah portion has a name, derived from the first few words in the text of the portion. These portions are listed by reference for you to follow what the Jewish people are reading each week, and the themes they are hearing and discussing in synagogues all over the world.
